Of course the content of a video plays a big part in how long people stay to watch, but the safe rule to follow is that less is often more. It’s also true that cutting a video down into a shorter version is often hard , which is why a lot of the web videos we see tend to run for much longer than they actually should for maximum viewer impact.

Right now, web video makes up about one-third of Internet traffic. But within four years, that number is expected to swell to 60%. And once you think about all the ways video is consumed…on the television, video on demand, peer-to-peer and the Internet, it’s predicted that video will account for 91% of all Internet traffic. That’s a big number…but people like their video. After all, there’s a very human reason why newspaper and book sales continue to dwindle…while web video and television consumption continues to rise; most people prefer watching over reading.
